The Year of Divine Providence

“I [the Lord] will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.” (Ps.32:8)

Every time you find a phrase in the Bible that states that “the Lord will …”  then you are going to see in the context of the story that the Lord will extend grace and favor. It’s the same thing when the Lord asks you to do something that is impossible, difficult to do, or beyond your mind - it means that with that command, HE will extend grace and favor for you so that you are able to do it; not with your own strength but with God’s strength.

In other words, what you need to do is to just follow His steps, listen to His counsel, walk in His way and also be ready to wait for His timing, not yours.

I’ve lived long enough to witness many incidents in my life which only God could have done. That is the reason why following God for me is very exciting - never boring.

In a few days we’re going to enter the New Year of 2010. I don’t have to tell you that many people are worried about the economy, lack of job opportunities, or whatever new Bill that is going to be passed. God is still God and He is not threatened by anything or anyone. There is no other God like our God. And this God is saying to you right now that He Himself is going to instruct, teach, counsel, and He will be there with you, watching over you.

If you really know your God, who He is, what He has, and what He can do - you will have no room in your mind to have the slightest fear at all. Our little brain cannot comprehend His greatness.

The definition of “Providence” in the dictionary is: the wisdom, care, and guidance believed to be provided by God; God perceived as a caring force guiding humankind; good judgment and foresight in the management of affairs or resources.

In the Hebraic calendar, it now is the year 5770. In Hebrew, numbers have meaning, and the meaning of 5770 is the year of Ayin (pronounced Ah-yin), which means “Eye.” The Lord’s eye - His very presence is with us who believe and He has been extending grace and favor to you. What we need to do is not to waste God’s favor. We need to use that favor to glorify Him.

Even as we celebrate Christmas this year - Jesus Christ must be the center of our celebration and in our lives. Give testimony of God’s favor in you, in your family, at school, in your work place or in your business. Yes, do it as often as you can. When you testify, you glorify. When you testify God’s goodness, you defeat the devil.

Enter the New Year with gratefulness, peace, and joy - trusting God in every area of your life. He will do what He has promised.

My wife and I wish all of you a blessed Christmas and Divine Providence for the New Year.

We love you,

Pastor Paul and Joyce Tan
