Some people are afraid to hope because they’ve experienced too much hurt and disappointment. They think they cannot face any more pain so they refuse to hope in order to not be disappointed. Disappointment is painful. The wisest king, Solomon, can identify with us when he said, “Hope defered makes the heart sick, but when the desire is fulfilled it is a tree of life.” (see Prov. 13:12) The Bible says that the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy – that’s why Satan wants to hurt you and have you spend your life distrusting everybody just because somebody hurt you in the past. It may have occurred when you were a child, while you were in school, on your job, in your marriage, or within the walls of the church.  The list of the “who, what, where, and how” you can be hurt is endless.
