Unity in the Body

“If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? … But now indeed there are many members, yet one body.” (1 Cor.12:16-20) God wants to use all of you as one body to bring glory to His name. When the Bible tells us that “you” are the body of Christ, God is not talking about “you” only, singular, but all of you as a body. However, many people have the tendency to only think about themselves as an isolated individual. When you come to Christ, you thank God for your individual salvation. That’s good. But after that, do you only think about yourself — your own life, your business, your family, and your own concerns? If that is the case, that’s not God’s plan when He talks about the body of Christ. “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” (1 Pet.2:9) “You” alone cannot call yourself a generation or a nation, but “all of you” can be called as a chosen generation or a nation.
